I always love winter whites. It is especially easy to get away with in the heat of Dallas, but it always gives a fresh look to your style. I picked up this fun fringed skirt at Zara in New York. They had so many cute creamy white outfits on display that inspired this look.

I had been on the look out for a hot pink blazer for a while and finally found this Elizabeth & James one at Neiman Marcus over the weekend. I also always look for great basic T-shirts and recently fell in love with Style Mint. Here I am wearing the Harlem shirt that I've been layering with different jackets. Now that Fashion Week has come to an end, it's time for a little recap! Everyone keeps asking me what my favorite show was to attend... I have to go with Monique Lhuillier. She makes the most amazing jaw dropping gowns. I love the dewy skin and slimming dresses at Herve Leger, and feminine sparklers at Lela Rose. One of the highlights of my trip to New York was being honored next to all of my favorite bloggers as top grossing blog in 2011. I was honored alongside my daily reads: Saucy Glossie, Style Scribe, Brooklyn Blonde, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Luella and June and Le Fashion (Just to name a few). I loved meeting the talented girls behind my favorite blogs and making new friends! It was also great to catch up with my beautiful friend Jane of Sea of Shoes. I have had such a wonderful trip in New York! I'm sad to have to leave early, but I have an Art History exam I have to be back for tomorrow ;(. The shows have been so amazing! I'll share more outfits and tidbits later this week. My favorites so far have been Monique Lhuillier and Lela Rose. Monique's show had a mirrored stage for the models to walk on that looked like they were floated in the beautiful gowns (pictured above.) Lela had the most adorable little dresses with cool up dos perfect for a girly cocktail party! I apologize for the bad quality photos, these were snapped on my iPhone!

NYFW Day 2

Yesterday was the first day of shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. We started out the day at Lincoln center for the BCBG Max Azria (they had the most amazing color blocked dresses and beautiful fur coats). It was so fun to see all of the street style and fashion icons in one place. Next, we had a wonderful lunch at the Empire Hotel and headed back to the tents for the Tadashi Shoji show. The highlight of my day was the top 25 grossing bloggers dinner where I got to meet a few of my favorites: Saucy Glossie, Cupcakes and Cashmere and Brooklyn Blonde. What shows are you the most excited for?

Day 1 of New York was a long one! First, I met some new friends and lovely readers at the IFB conference with some amazing panelists! It was also exciting to preview the new J Brand ready to wear collection. Lunch with friends at Chelsea market was delicious! Next I had to fulfill my sweet tooth and stop in at my favorite Macaroon place, Laduree. We even managed a little break for shopping where I found this fun Pamela Love necklace. I'm sure I will wear it this week! Tomorrow entails a few exciting shows and events. Have a wonderful night!

While color jeans were fun last year, the fresh take on colored bottoms is to dress them up! The dress pant version of color blocking bottoms are a sophisticated version of colored denim that can take you from work to cocktails. I also like the prints in black and white versions which are easier to pair a top with and are also a bit less intimidating than a splatter paint version. Don't know what to pair them with? My favorite print has always been Ikat. Generally I think of it more for summer time, but with the up and down temperatures we've been getting in Dallas, I've been wearing more layers. I was browsing through some photos I took at the Kimberly McDonald party at 4510 a few weeks ago and keep coming back to this one from one of the store displays. These photos are from a fun photo shoot I did for Amber Venz when she featured me as a girl of the moment on Venz Edits! Courtney Teesdale is the photographer behind the fun photos (you'll notice she also took the pics for my banner) and Amber did the styling!

   I decided to put together a list of my favorite Holiday makeup because it is such a fun time to try new things and be a little bit dramatic for Christmas parities and events!
   For my hair, I use a 1" barrel curling iron to wrap sections of the hair around the iron without using the clamp and hold the ends out to make it look more natural! I finish it off with my favorite Fekkai hairspray!
     For everyday makeup I use a lot of Bobbi Brown. First I use the tined moisturizer with SPF15 then I use the tinted eye brightener on the inner corner of my eye lid and underneath my eyes. Both of these products give a pretty dewy finish to the skin when you apply with your fingers. Then I sweep on MAC powder for photo shoots or events. I have tried so many different blushes, but I consider the Bobbi Brown ones the best, because they have alot of pigment and stay on all day. You can find the apples of your cheeks when you smile. I mix a pink and coral one together to get a pinky glow! My sister got me hooked on the Chanel cream shimmer shadows. They look beautiful for parties. Then I use the Bobbi Brown cream shadow as an eyeliner. By using a small concealer brush, I dip it in the pot and draw a line following the top lash then on the bottom lash I take the line from the outer corner to the middle of the pupil. This really opens up the eyes and makes them look bigger and awake. Then I finish it off with YSL Mascara!

Lela Rose opens the first boutique in Highland Park Village, Dallas

I have to say I jumped for joy a little when I found out I was the first blogger to get an inside look at the Lela Rose boutique freshly opened in Highland Park Village! As the Dallas born designer's first store, I would say she did an amazing job of making it look like a dream closet in a chic NYC penthouse while keeping that open and friendly vibe that makes you want to shop with a cup of tea in hand. They have the perfect combination of flouncy day dresses and delicate evening gowns perfect for a sophisticated girly girl! The first thing I spotted? A blue Mohair fringe coat in the window layered over what opener Laura Ginsburg calls "the perfect holiday dress!" ...And, a pop of pink was added to my Christmas list! I'm loving anything and everything that has a little shimmer to it for Fall. Since we normally think of dark colors for cooler weather, it makes you stand out and feel ready for anything when you at a little glitz to your outfit. I especially love using shimmer makeup in the fall because it really makes your eyes pop! I use the Bobbi Brown shimmer shadow on the inner corners of my eyes and the Chantecaille shimmer sticks to highlight the area above my cheekbones! Similar to leopard, it is best to stick to one piece of sparkle at a time! I hope you find something fun to add to your cold weather wardrobe!

A Spooky Halloween

I'm not a big fan of anything too scary when it comes to Halloween, but when my mom called to ask if I wanted to use our old decorations... I had to say yes.

My mom found this poster I made as a little girl! It kind of resembles the dog I have now, Buddy. This is where the fun begins- the entryway.

I love myself a sequin, so I was super excited when I found these glitter skulls and bones. I mixed in old decorations with new pumpkins and gourds- a great decorating option if you're not very in to Halloween. Another trick is to make candle sticks crooked. It gives it a spooky haunted house look!

It's that time of year where we are all looking for great coats that will last through seasons. My advice is to find a classic trench, cape, and coat that you absolutely love and will last a lifetime. When finding a trench, you want to look for a classic shape with an interesting element to dress up any outift. A cape is something that you can have more fun with because it really makes the whole outfit. Capes are great for the weekend, just make sure you have a great pair of skinny jeans and boots that you can pair it with! You want to find a coat that can be worn with anything in your closet and that will take you from day to night. That is why I usually stick to black or navy for a longer winter coat.

I had the pleasure of meeting designer Katherine Hooker, who makes the most beautiful custom coats. She is the talented designer behind the structured jackets we've seen Kate Middleton wearing to friends weddings and polo matches.

Based in London, Katherine is in town for a quick visit to meet her American fans.

First pick your style by trying sample jackets, then pick fabrics, colors, buttons, and trim all sourced from the UK. Then it is time for measurements to get the perfect fit. It takes 6-8 weeks for the jacket to arrive at your door, but it will be like Christmas morning when mine arrives! I went with a caramel color wool with black leather trim for a look Katherine calls English riding with a mix of French.

Pumpkin Bread

My sister and I made this amazing pumpkin bread recipe last weekend! As someone who is a pumpkin fanatic this time of year, you can count on it being delicious if I say it is! We got the recipe from friends Cathy and Jenica Williamson. It's sure to be a Fall favorite for dinner guests, friends, and family!

Ingredients:

1 cup margarine

3 cups sugar

3 eggs

1 can of pumpkin (1 lb)

1 tsp. vanilla

3 cups sifted flour

1 1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp clove powder

1 tsp allspice

Directions:

Cream butter together and add sugar, gradually beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift all dried ingredients and add gradually alternating each addition with pumpkin. 3 greased 8 x 5 pans. Preheat oven at 350 degrees and bake for 40-50 minutes.

As you probably know, I'm not one to wear flats very often... as of late, long days have been calling for a more comforting shoe. On the hunt for a classic pair of flats, I got these Tory Burch Eddie Flats that I keep hearing about! Not only are they more comfortable than my nike running shoes, they feel like your are walking on a cusiony pillow with every step. The Chanel Tea with Justine Picardie was beyond! Picardie is a British Journalist who has been an editor at British VOGUE and writer for Harpers Bazaar (She even has a blog here). She has intensly studied the life of Coco Chanel and wrote Chanel Her Life after visiting many of the places that influenced Chanel growing up and in the later years. Not only did she write part of the book in Mademoiselle's Paris apartment, she also tried on one of the origional jackets Chanel's great niece has, which still smelled like #5. The book includes over 200 never seen before sketches by Karl Lagerfeld and I can't wait to read it! Pacaride told us that Chanel always loved dressing American woman and that she thought they were the most chic... Oh la la!
